Joseph R. Scogna Jr.
Joseph R. Scogna Jr. began his research into the relationship between patterns, energy, and the body in 1975: By 1979, he founded Life Energy Publications to share his discoveries with the world.
Over the next decade, Joe developed the Self Awareness Formulas (SAF®), a structured system for understanding how emotional patterns form, repeat, and manifest in the body. In 1982, he pioneered the use of infrared technology as an objective verification layer for SAF® interpretation, bridging science and holistic understanding in a way few had attempted.
He authored numerous books, including SAF Simplified, Nutrionics, Promethion, and The Numbers of SAF, each building on his core insight: that the body communicates through patterns, and those patterns can be read. He designed hundreds of computer programs to run these interpretations in the early 1980s, when very few people even knew what a computer was.
Joseph founded Life Energy Foundation, Inc. and Life Force, Inc. to house his literary work and training courses, and started Probiotic, Inc. to supply his own homeopathic remedies alongside the SAF® programs. He taught classes and lectured widely on the holistic circuit, principally in California, Arizona, Colorado, and Florida, drawing on Eastern philosophy, Western medicine, and quantum physics united through the language of mathematics.
Perhaps his greatest achievement was his cutting-edge use of infrared to read the body's bio-energetic field and locate the exact venting sites of emotions such as anger, fear, and apathy, the same technique behind the racehorse case below. His written work went far beyond the SAF numbering system itself: papers and health evaluations covering symptom awareness, urine and saliva studies, hair and blood analysis, and even smoking and addiction patterns, each paired with his own remedy programs built from herbs, flowers, foods, homeopathics, Chinese medicine, and color. Joseph R. Scogna Jr. lived from 1949 to 1989, and his collective work remains available exclusively through Life Energy Publications.

The Racehorse Who Wouldn't Perform
A Derby champion, retired to stud, had lost interest in everything, including the job he'd been retired for. His owners were baffled. Joseph ran the horse's chain from an infrared scan: Lead 13, Core 4, Anchor 20, an emotionally drained animal who disliked his new life and missed the track.
The chain was right. Once the owners brought the excitement of his old racing life back, with attention, grooming, and fanfare, the horse recovered and went on to a successful career at stud.
